Welcome to the wonderful world of Brian Lewis!  Here's what I'm up to lately....

I am an Instructor in both the English Department and the Women and Gender Studies Program at Century College in White Bear Lake, MN.  I am about to begin my fifth year at Century.  I moved to Minnesota in August of 2004, but I still have a lot to learn about the state.

Back in 2004, I completed my Ph.D. in Critical Studies in the Teaching of English at Michigan State University under the direction of Dr. Ellen Cushman.  It only took me nine years!  My dissertation was titled “LGBT Student Negotiations of Academic Literacies: The Building of Disciplinary and Campus Literacy Communities.”  Here’s a link to the dissertation if you want to check it out.

During the Fall 2008 term, I am teaching two sections of ENGL 1021 (Composition 1). Both will be taught in "web-supplemented" format with online assignments in Desire2Learn and make use of Century's Online Writing Center.  I am also teaching ENGL 2011 (American Literature: Colonial to Civil War) for the first time since 2006!!  Hurrah!

Speaking of the Online Writing Center, I have release time during the 2007-08 academic year to serve as its coordinator.  I also serve as Chair of the Gen. Ed. Assessment Committee; we are currently working on a project involving information technology.

In addition to my coursework and release time work, I'm also active on the Honors Committee, the Student Success Day Committee, the Global Education Committee, and the Writing Center Committee.

Thanks for visiting my e-folio!
